Vein-cut and cross-cut
The relationship between the cut and the rock’s orientation changes a slab’s pattern. In travertine, a cut showing the bedding produces linear bands, while a different direction may reveal cloud-like patterns and scattered cavities. Commercial terminology is not always used consistently. Agree samples and slab direction, and check that mechanical tests reflect the intended orientation where this matters.
