Porosity and water absorption

Porosity describes the space occupied by voids within a rock; absorption measures water taken up during a defined test. They are not interchangeable: pore size, connectivity, microcracks and test conditions matter. An absorption result alone does not establish frost resistance, waterproofing or pool suitability. Compare values obtained using the same method on stone representative of the actual supply.
