Bulk density and real density
Bulk density relates the mass of a specimen to its overall volume, including pore space. Real density concerns its solid material with voids excluded according to the test method. These measurements describe aspects of stone structure, but do not directly establish strength. Estimating a slab’s weight also requires its area, actual thickness and any attached backing or reinforcement.
